Construction on the ‘Wild Kingdom’ playspace on Three Mills Green is now underway. The ‘Wild Kingdom’, will be a natural playspace that will provide young people with opportunities for access to nature and exciting and challenging play. It is a Lee Valley Regional Park Authority project funded by The Legacy List and supported by the London Legacy Development Corporation.
The new playspace is due to be completed in September 2012. Following our earlier ‘Wild Play’ workshops, there will be a number of free on site workshops both during and after its construction.

The Building Crafts College in Stratford have been making joinery pieces for our amphitheatre seating on Three Mills Green. Our armrests and seating slats are now nearly finished and ready to be installed on site.
In preparation for the playspace construction starting on site, our new ‘Wild’ banners have been installed along the canal. Check back here for details on our upcoming workshops for your chance to help build the new play structures on Three Mills Green.
New planting is going in at Three Mills as part of the playspace proposals. It includes seasonal blossoms, distinctive seed heads and trees that will be bent to create shade.
More wildflowers and bulb planting will be going in this autumn. We will be looking for volunteers who would like to be part of this planting event… check back for more details.
We’ve spent the last two days exploring the site of the new playspace with local group Play, Sow and Grow, and other local children. With the help of playworkers from PATH, we built dens and tents, made hammocks and rope swings – and there was even a wedding! It was great to start playing on the site and we’re looking forward to doing more of it with our other upcoming events.
Our first Wild Play Workshops will take place in the upcoming Easter Holidays; Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th April 10am–2pm at Three Mills Green.
These sessions will be run by local playworkers on the site of the upcoming new playspace on Three Mills Green. Our activities will include den-building, playing in the trees and exploring the park. All ages are welcome and no booking is required for this free drop-in event. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
We have been developing our proposals for the ‘Clamberable Canopy’. These nets and ropes will make the most of the hilly landscape at Three Mills Green and will be an exciting addition to the playspace.
We will be working with the local Building Crafts College, based in Stratford, on a number of playspace elements as part of our ‘Community Commissioning’ programme.
